WHAT WE DO

At Anderson Nichols Design, we guide you through the process of designing a custom home to meet your specific needs, while ensuring the design is practical for your budget. The result is fully detailed plans which provide all of the information required to build the home. We can also provide assistance in selecting a builder, which will aid in controlling costs once the design process has begun.

The design process itself progresses as follows.

Step 1 - Preliminary Arrangements

The first step is to personally meet with the client to determine if we can fulfill their specific needs. If we decide to design their home, we review the client's requirements and budget. We discover what preferences they have and listen to their ideas, to later be incorporated in the design. Finally, we walk the building site (if possible) and request a survey of the lot.

Step 2 - Design Development Process

Once we have determined the needs and wishes of the client, we review the style of home they have envisioned. An initial floor plan concept is developed. The concept is revised until it is approved by the client. On average, a plan requires about 5 revisions, which takes around 2 weeks. Once approved, the roof is designed, and preliminary elevations are developed to the client's tastes.

Step 3 - Final Drawings

The final step in the process is to produce the final elevations for approval. The process concludes with the completion of the final construction drawings. The plans are fully detailed and can be passed directly to the builder you have previously chosen, or bid on by potential builders.
